Instead you walk through rainforest at night looking for chameleons and mouse lemurs, stand beneath baobabs at sunset, snorkel reefs off the east coast and watch humpback whales calve off Île Sainte-Marie between July and September. It is not a safari, and that is exactly why it belongs at the end of one.
