Bwindi's forest holds close to half the world's mountain gorillas; Kibale offers the finest chimpanzee tracking in Africa. Beyond the forests are the tree-climbing lions of Ishasha, the crater lakes of Queen Elizabeth and the Nile forcing its entire volume through a seven-metre gap at Murchison Falls. For birders it is one of the richest countries on earth, and the only straightforward place to look for a shoebill.
